EVENT DETAILS:
The goal of “Fetal Medicine Symposium” is to create awareness on Invasive & Non invasive Prenatal Diagnosis, First Trimester Screening for Birth Defects and Intra Uterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) with comprehensive review of the diagnosis, management and counseling for fetal anomalies and disorders.
OVERALL LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
At the end of this session, the participants will be able to:
- Understand the pathophysiology of an enlarged NT, its role in Down syndrome screening and identification of fetal anomalies.
- Incorporate Nuchal Translucency measurements into an algorithm including biochemical analytes that will be used for individual Down syndrome risk assessment.
- Recognize the extent and the complexities of nasal bone technical aspects in order to rule out the risks involved first trimester fetal abnormalities.
- Define various factors that contribute to prenatal birth defects including Trisomy, neural tube defects, fetal anomalies, and other chromosomal abnormalities.
- Analyze risk assessment strategies and identify the limitations of prenatal diagnosis.
- Learn the principles of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) involved in non-invasive diagnostic methods. Outline the factors that leads to false positive and false negative reports based on cell-free DNA.
- Recognize the role of non-invasive prenatal diagnosis in clinical practice and the benefits compared to conventional approaches.
- Compare and assess the risk factors involved during non-invasive and invasive procedures. Identify and list the factors and complications of chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis.
- Counsel pregnant patients with a personal or family history of genetic disease.
- Understand and recall the basic knowledge on defining IUGR.
- Select new parameters and apply recommended strategies in the diagnosis of IUGR.
- Differentiate GRIT and truffle studies on IUGR.
- Analyze the impact of IUGR on fetal development.
- Identify various aspects of fetal adaptations and practice different methods in managing severe IUGR.
- To estimate the risk involved in diabetes during pregnancy.
